Apply for your ITIN together with your tax return

Most first-time ITIN applications are sent to the IRS attached to a federal tax return. We prepare both so they reach the IRS as one complete package.

  • W-7 plus Form 1040-NR or 1040
  • For non-residents with US income
Who this is for

When the W-7 and return go together

US income to report

Non-residents with US-source income, such as from a US business or rental property.

Spouse or dependent claims

Applicants listed on a US citizen’s or resident’s return.

Treaty benefits

Non-residents claiming a reduced rate under a US tax treaty.

How it works

One package, two documents

  1. Review your income

We look at your US income and decide which return applies.

  2. Prepare the return

Form 1040-NR or 1040, with the ITIN field left for the IRS.

  3. Prepare Form W-7

Matched to the reason that fits your situation.

  4. Send together

The W-7, return and ID documents go to the IRS as one package.

  5. IRS processes both

The IRS assigns the ITIN, then processes the return.

Exception cases

Some applicants can apply without a tax return under specific IRS exceptions, such as certain treaty or withholding situations. We check whether one applies to you.
